The Department of Theatre Arts and Dance would like to congratulate their recent award winners.

City Pages Artists of the Year for 2008:
BA Theatre Program Head and Instructor, Luverne Seifert, was named one of City Pages' 2008 Artists of the Year. For more detailed information, check out the City Pages' article on Luverne.
Emmy® Award Winner:
Affliate Theatre Faculty member, T. Mychael Rambo, narrated a series of one minute video spots honoring Minnesotans who have worked to protect and restore our natural landscape called "Minnesota Minute." Produced by TPT/KTCA - Twin Cities Public Televison and the University of Minnesota Bell Museum, the thirteen PSAs received an Emmy® from the National Television Academy's Upper Midwest Chapter in the Community/Public Service Campaign category.
Ivey and Sage Awards Receipents:
- Collaborative Arts Faculty member, Michael Sommers, for Open Eye Figure Theatre’s production of Prelude to Faust, which won an Ivey for overall excellence. Sommers is the theatre’s Artistic Director.
- BA in Performance Program Head and Director of Undergraduate Studies, Luverne Seifert, who was a cast member of Frank Theatre’s production of The Pillowman, which won an Ivey for unparalleled emotional impact.
- BA Theatre alum, Jairus Abts, who won an Ivey for his outstanding performance as Hedwig in the Jungle Theater’s production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
- BFA Actor Training Program alum, Matthew Amendt, who won the Ivey’s Emerging Artist Award.
- Affiliate dance faculty member, Erin Thompson, who won a Sage for Outstanding Educator.
- Katie Guentzel who played Joan Plowright in Orson's Shadow, which was acknowledged with an Ivey award for Outstanding Ensemble with Gremlin Theatre.
- Alum, Scotty Reynolds, directed Broken Brain Summit for the Interact Theatre, which won an Ivey Award for Innovative Concept and Idea. The production featured sound design by Elliot Durko Lynch, scenic design by Faith Farrell (MFA) and music by U of M dance accompanist Maria Benson.
- Affliate theatre faculty member, Laurie Van Wieren, recieved the Special Citation Sage Award for her years of work in the dance community.
